Welcome to A Meaningful Existence!

The Best Piece of Advice I Ever Received

The best piece of advice that I ever received was….

Expert Advice

…to stay in school and get an education.

Simple really. But that piece of advise changed my life. It changed the trajectory of my life.

Getting an education gave me options. Without an education, I would be stuck in a small-town, probably working in a menial job and not making much money. I would be hanging around people who also working in menial jobs, not making much money and having limited choices in life.

Going to university and getting a degree and later going to college and getting second degree gave me the confidence to believe in myself. Without that confidence, I don’t know where I would be.

Getting an education didn’t mean that I knew everything, but I knew some things. And, if I didn’t know something, I knew that I could stick with it and learn anything. After all, I stuck with 4 years of university, 1 year of an after-degree certificate, a 3 year diploma, 3 years of night school and numerous self-study courses. I knew that it someone else could do something, I could figure it out, too.

Getting an education meant that I could be on a level-playing field when I applied for jobs in my field. Getting more than a degree meant that I could compete for higher-paying jobs with more responsibility.

Yes, it also meant years of paying off student loans and sacrificing many years of my life. But, that time and money would have been spent anyways. Maybe in making poorer decisions.

Who knows what the future holds? I don’t, but I know I can handle whatever the future brings me. I will figure it out and handle whatever happens.

Yep, staying in school and getting an education was the best advise I ever received.
